Marine Services Chief Stan Hills has been an advocate for improving emergency services at Miami-Dade Fire Rescue for more than 25 years. He served as president and vice president of Local 1403.

During this tenure, and due in part to Hills’ efforts, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue has been transformed from a medium size fire department to one of the most dynamic in the world.

Hills is active in United Way, the Muscular Dystrophy Association and served as chair of the Fire Fighters’ Charities. Raised in Detroit, Hills studied physics at the University of Michigan. He moved to Miami in the 1970s, where he worked as an ocean rescue lifeguard.

Chief Hills began his career in the Fire Service in 1983, serving as a fire fighter and paramedic. In 1986, he received a bachelor’s in fire service from FIU
