Krista Casazza, Ph.D, ’06 – Public Health and Social Work Alumna


An expert on physical activity, nutrition and ethnicity, Krista Casazza is an assistant professor in the Department of Nutrition Sciences at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

The recipient of the prestigious and highly competitive National Institute of Health K90/R00 grant, Casazza earned her Ph.D. in dietetics and nutrition from FIU in 2006.

The focus of her doctoral dissertation pertained to the method of dissemination of nutrition, physical activity, and health promotion information to improve the lifestyle habits of high school-aged adolescents.

Currently, she is completing a funded pilot and feasibility study at the UAB Center for Women’s Reproductive Health, Thrasher Research Foundation. She is testing the effect of modification of macronutrient profile on weight loss and weight loss maintenance in African American girls during the pubertal transition.

Casazza is also associate editor for Open Obesity Journal.
