Javier Rodriguez, P.E. ’90 – Engineering Alumnus


An engineer with almost two decades of experience, Javier Rodríguez is executive director of the Miami-Dade Expressway Authority (MDX), where he manages a budget of more than $50 million and a $620 million capital work program that preserves, enhances and expands MDX’s five tolled expressways.

Prior to joining MDX as second executive director in 2007, Rodríguez was director of transportation systems development with the Florida Department of Transportation (District 6), serving Miami-Dade and Monroe counties.

During his 16-year tenure with the department, he oversaw large-scale projects such as the Miami Intermodal Center and the Port of Miami Tunnel.

A Lifetime Member of the FIU Alumni Association, the native Floridian has seen his public service recognized multiple times by his industry, and serves on the board of directors of the International Bridge, Tunnel and Turnpike Association and the advisory board of the Dade Public Schools Academy of Engineering.
