Captain Jacinto J. Garrido ’86, MSN ’94 – Nursing and Health Sciences Alumnus

As senior program management officer consultant and special operations chief for the Department of Homeland Security, Captain Jacinto Garrido exhibits both courage and care in his approach to military medicine, which he began practicing 24 years ago when he joined the United States Public Health Service (USPHS) Commissioned Corps.

While pursuing his master’s in nursing at FIU, he was the principal investigator on a demographic research project for the USPHS on the relationship between syphilis and HIV among immigrants under INS custody in the Southern U.S.

Throughout the years, Garrido rose through the ranks, holding positions with different government institutions that ultimately led to his current position with the Division of Immigration Health Services.

There, the decorated officer provides highly skilled medical support for the Immigration & Customs Enforcement and politically sensitive missions during domestic and international operations.
