Allan Phipps MS ’00 – Biology Alumnus

An educator for 11 years, Allan Phipps teaches advanced placement courses in environmental science and alternative energies at South Plantation High School’s Everglades Restoration and Environmental Science Magnet Program.

Known for engaging his students in hands-on, project-based learning, Phipps mentors multiple environmental projects, including the deployment of artificial reefs and a student-built solar car that his students race annually.

The team clinched the national championship in 2009. That same year, Allan was also awarded the Presidential Award for Excellence in Math and Science Teaching by President Barack Obama.

He received his award during a trip to the White House. Phipps was named Florida Governor’s Serve to Preserve: Green Schools’ 2009 Teacher of the Year and recently was recognized as the 2011 Broward County Teacher of the Year and a Florida Macy’s Teacher of the Year finalist.

He has a master’s in biology from FIU.
