Mario De La Rosa, Social Work Professor

My career in social work has been dedicated to researching issues of substance abuse and HIV/AIDS in minority populations. I am the director of the Center for Research on U.S. Latinos HIV/AIDS and Drug Abuse at the Florida International University.

The center came about as a reaction to a lack of research on the twin epidemics of HIV/AIDS and substance abuse in South Florida’s rapidly growing Latino populations.

One of our goals is to increase the number of researchers working on substance abuse and HIV/AIDS in Latino populations.

The Center, therefore, provides opportunities for FIU students to participate in the research initiatives and develop the skills and knowledge to continue their research careers.
