Alex Acosta, College of Law Dean

Public service is one of the most rewarding jobs one can have. There is no greater pleasure than to help your community, right its wrongs and leave your home a better place than when you found it.

Prior to joining FIU, I served I was the longest serving U.S. Attorney in South Florida since the 1970s. Under my leadership, the Southern District prosecuted a wide variety of historic matters, including the prosecutions of Jack Abramoff for fraud, Jose Padilla for terrorism, and Charles Taylor Jr. for torture in the first torture case of its kind in the U.S. I grew up in Miami and I went to Harvard Law School. I served as Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights under the George W. Bush Administration. But at the end of the day, Miami is my home and this is the community I want to serve.
